Drivers escape crash uninjured

HODGESVILLE — Both drivers walked away uninjured after a Tuesday morning wreck by the Hodgesville Mini Mart. Cheyenne Dennison, age 23 of Buckhannon, was traveling north on Route 20 in her 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she said she became distracted and accidentally struck the truck in front of her that had slowed down to turn into the store.

The other driver, 34-year-old Brian Lewis, was also traveling north in his 2012 Dodge 1500.  Lewis stated, “I had slowed down and started to turn into the parking lot and the vehicle behind me struck the rear of my truck and shoved me into the parking lot.”

Dennison explained, “I had got a tattoo yesterday and I looked down at my tattoo on my arm and when I looked back up, the truck in front of me had stopped and there wasn’t enough time for me to stop and I hit the rear of the truck.”

Neither of the vehicles had passengers and both drivers declined medical treatment on the scene.  Cpl. Theron Caynor of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department was the investigating officer, assisted by Lt. Mark Davis. Precision Auto towed the Jeep due to disabling damage and the Dodge truck was driven away from the scene with minor damage.
