BUCKHANNON — Dick Heatherly, 87, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon. He was born March 12, 1929 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Omar Clayton and Vada Lane Heatherly. On Dec. 8, 1955 he married Rosemary Thomas who survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Rose Ellen Loudin and husband Chuck, of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Adam Loudin and wife Katie, of Buckhannon, and Jonathan Loudin and wife Marie, of Charlotte, N.C.; one great-grandson, Thomas Loudin, of Buckhannon, and one great-granddaughter, Amy Loudin, of Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Earnest Heatherly and two sisters, Jean Corsale and Louise Marsh. Mr. Heatherly served in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 3663, a member of the Moose Lodge 598 and a member of the Buckhannon Housing Authority. Mr. Heatherly earned an honorary degree from the University of Hard Knocks for the success he had in his management career. He valued the time he spent with his family and friends. Friends will be received Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Steven Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
