Despite their loss, Lady Bucs hold their own in season closer

BRIDGEPORT — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School girls’ soccer team played very well on Thursday evening in the Sectional Championship game, despite their loss to close out the season.

Coach Jackie Zuliani noted, “The heart and will to win for the Lady Bucs was the best everyone has seen all season. It is heartbreaking it ended the way it did since the girls played their hearts out.”

Chloe Cale scored the first goal of the game in the 2nd minute with an assist from Catherine Oliveto. Oliveto passed the ball to the right side for Cale to send it into the net. Bridgeport’s Kylie Bender then scored in the 12th minute, bringing the game’s score to 1-1.

Oliveto assisted Cale again in the 37th minute for the Lady Buccaneers’ second goal. Cameron Zuliani made another goal in the 57th minute. Bridgeport came out with the last two goals of the game, finishing with an overall score of 4-3.

“I’m very proud of these girls for how hard they worked this season and their drive to win during games,” Coach Zuliani noted.
