Davis Health System celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month

ELKINS — May is Mental Health Awareness Month and serves as a great opportunity for our community to begin eliminating stigma by starting conversations and increasing understanding about mental illness.

1 in 5 people will have some kind of mental illness in a given year. Stigma is the greatest barrier to individuals seeking help regarding their mental illness. Now, more than ever before, many of us could be feeling increased anxiety, stress or loneliness following a year of living with the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is okay to not be okay right now. By breaking down the stigma around mental illness, we can support those who are struggling to find the resources and treatment they deserve.

The staff of Davis Health System is celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month by creating a photo collage of activities to de-stress. Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, WV is offering free stress management classes starting May 10 to October 11. For more information or to reserve your spot you may call (304) 457-8132.

Davis Medical Center now offers psychiatric services for patients ages 14 and older. Patients will be seen by Emmylou McDaniel, PMNHP-BC. For more information or to make an appointment please call (304) 637-3894.
