JANE LEW — David Gene “Grubby” Smith, 59, of Sauls Run Rd. Buckhannon passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017 in the comfort of his home with family by his side.
He was born in Buckhannon on March 8, 1958 a son of the late Hollen Gene Smith and Coretha Jean Rogers Smith of Buckhannon.
His loving, hard-working nature will be carried on by his two daughters: Jessica Smith and husband, Robert, and Brittany Smith, all of Newark, Del.; three grandchildren: Jaxen Jordan, Gavin Cline, and Serenidi Smith; one sister, Darla Tenney and husband, Delmar, of Buckhannon; one niece, Jackie Cutlip and husband Mark; one nephew, Chris Smith; and his best friend, loyal companion, and beloved dogs, Dixie and Babigurl.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Smith.
Grubby worked as a fork-lift operator for Moore Business Forms and Aleris International Inc. in Buckhannon for many years. As an avid Nascar fan, he always cheered for Jeff Gordon to take the checkered flag.
He also enjoyed camping by the river, listening to music, and spending time with his family.
His request for cremation has been honored. Friends and family gathered at the Lorentz United Methodist Church in Buckhannon from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017. A Celebration of Life Service followed at 3 p.m. with Pastor Calvin McCutcheon and Reverend Donnie Skidmore officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of David to the Wendling Warriors Relay for Life PO Box 661 Buckhannon, WV 26201.
