Cutlip’s 24 points not enough as Bucs fall at John Marshall


MOUNDSVILLE —John Marshall rallied in the fourth quarter to hand the Buckhannon-Upshur boys basketball team a 51-47 setback Saturday in non-conference action.

The Bucs, now 4-11, outrebounded the Monarchs, 32-22, and held a 15-13 advantage on field goals. They also led by four, at 34-30, entering the final quarter before being outscored 21-13 in the fourth canto.

Brayden Cutlip had a career-high 24 points and eight rebounds to lead B-U. He was the lone Buccaneer player in double figures.

Drew Heatherly chipped in five points and four assists and Holden Edwards grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Gunner Thompson tossed in 23 points and Bryce Yoho added 18 for John Marshall (6-7).

The Bucs canned 14-of-15 free throws for 93.3 percent, while the Monarchs were 24-of-33 for 72.7 percent.

The Bucs of first-year coach Travis Foster will return home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to face old rival Elkins for a Big 10 Conference encounter.
