MORGANTOWN — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School Buccaneers cross country team began their season with a trip North I-79 as they traveled to compete in the University Warm-Up last Tuesday, August 23. B-UHS Cross Country Head Coach Taylor Stacy’s Buccaneers earned a fourth place team finish, out of the five full competing teams with 102 team points. University took home the event win with 22 points, with Frankfort taking second place with 33 team points, while Morgantown finished in a distant third place with 85 points. East Fairmont finished fifth, last among the field of full teams with 115 team points. Brooke, Clay Battelle and Doddridge County did not field complete teams, but rounded out the rest of the field.
University’s Ryan Blohm finished the event with top individual honors with the fastest time in the field at 15.55.7. Senior Jordan Gillum finished as the Buccaneers top runner, earning an eleventh place finish with a time of 17:03.8. Jordan Gillum was the top B-U runner finishing 11th with a time of 17:03.8. Jack Waggy finished second on the team after earning a fourteenth place finish overall with a time of 17:43.3. Reis Leonard was the third highest placing Buccaneer after earning a twenty-second place finish with a time of 18:41.1, while Brycen Allen finishing thirty-first with a time of 19:40.6, and Owen Cutright who earned a thirty-third place finish with a time of 19:43.3 wrapped up the group of scoring runners for Coach Stacy’s boys’ team.
Other notable Buccaneer performances included: Joey Nolte who finished thirty-sixth with a time of 20:00.4, Alex Sappey in thirty-eighth with a time of 20:10.4, Jeremy Allman in fifty-eighth with a time of 22:50.2, Weldon Zirkle in fifty-ninth with a time of 23:24.4, and Brandon Landis in sixty-fourth with a time of 23.48.9.
