Create Buckhannon hosts pre–New Year’s Eve meeting

BUCKHANNON — Members of Create Buckhannon met via zoom Thursday, December 30 to discuss the final decisions and actions before heading into the new year.

For the final actions of 2021, the group is working on finalizing some very exciting steps for the community. The members are also continuing their support of the Buckhannon-Upshur Youth Council. Members continually meet with the teenagers; however, they only operate as a support system for the teen-led meeting.

After a lot of work and planning, Create Buckhannon has received a $22,000 grant from Just Transition Fund to contract with Downstream Strategies on what is known as “technical assistance.” The contract will ensure Create Buckhannon has proper assistance in researching appropriate federal funding for identified projects in Buckhannon and preparing funding requests.

Future projects for Buckhannon could see new river access and fishing piers. More information about the grant and its use will be published in future editions of The Record Delta.

The group will also be accepting new memberships and renewals for the 2022 year. Anyone interested in obtaining information about becoming a member of Create Buckhannon can email questions to [email protected] The group’s Treasurer Melodie Stemple receives all email communications. Membership forms and renewals will be sent out after the holiday.
