Create Buckhannon discusses valor banners

BUCKHANNONCreate Buckhannon held their weekly meeting on Thursday, May 12 at the Opera House. Although a smaller amount in attendance, the meeting was very productive. Melody Stemple led the meeting while Buck Edwards and Susan Aloi assisted.

The date for the setup of the valor banners has been set for Tuesday, May 24. Create Buckhannon is currently asking for volunteers to clean the banners. There are currently over 700 banners needing cleaned with some already spoken for. Volunteers may take the banners to their home for cleaning purposes. Chapel Hill Church is also seeking volunteers to help sell food from Thursday through Saturday.

Announcements included that Festival Fridays will be offering the $15 chicken dinner every first and third Fridays of the month. Dr. Reed announced the “Jack and the Beanstalk” event to take place on Saturday, August 13. Also, another attendee spoke briefly on the Leadership Upshur program. Edwards reported that they will be developing parking at the river’s access points that Mayor Skinner spoke about in last week’s meeting. Edwards noted, “It will make a nice site once it is up and ready and we already have contractors for this project.” Spring Street will have additional parking available this year for the festival. This will ensure that there will be plenty of parking available to the public during the festival’s activities.

Additionally, for the Strawberry Festival, the arts and crafts table will be set up at Stockert Youth Center this year rather than at Wesleyan College and the antique car show will be after the Grand Feature Parade rather than directly before. The gift shop will also be set up in front of Anderegg Jewelers.

Katie Loudin also presented the now-up-and-running full functional farmer’s market website that received five orders this past week. You can visit the website by going to
