BUCKHANNON — Create Buckhannon returned to a virtual meeting Thursday after an increase in local COVID-19 numbers forced a Festival Fridays cancellation.
The most recent Festival Fridays reportedly showed a lack of attendance, which was speculated to be the result of the WV Largest Yard Sale and warm temperatures. Vendors began wearing masks as an attempt to keep visitors safe during the rising numbers. But now the question is, with the county being drastically elevated in numbers, will the remaining Festival Fridays be able to take place?
That decision is currently up in the air and is being voted upon by members of the group. They plan to make the decision that is best for the entire community and visitors. After the vote, the decision the group makes will be shared as a public announcement to keep everyone updated.
Although the Annual Green Bean Celebration was cancelled also, bushels of green beans will be donated to the Parish House to be given to families in need. If any beans were grown for the celebration and could still be donated, donations can be made to the Parish House during normal business hours.
Next week’s meeting will bring a final decision and more discussion on other community plans. Stay tuned for further updates from Create Buckhannon, regarding the remainder of Festival Fridays.
