BUCKHANNON — A couple from Rock Cave remains incarcerated in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail for multiple offenses surrounding child neglect and drugs. Codey Mark Jones, age 29, faces charges of child neglect creating risk of injury, possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and driving while license suspended – third offense. Ciera Elizabeth Jones, age 25, was also charged with child neglect creating risk of injury and possession of a controlled substance – oxycodone.
According to the Upshur County Magistrate Court Criminal Complaints, both parents were found in an unconscious state and unable to be awoken by employees in the Tractor Supply parking lot at Tennerton on or about May 18. A small nude child was also observed in the back seat of the vehicle, so 911 was called.
Corporal R.S. Rolenson along with EMS were successful in waking them up after arrival on scene and the report said a syringe containing suspected methamphetamine was located on the dash in front of the driver/father, Codey Jones. He admitted the methamphetamine was his, according to the complaint.
A small change purse containing one oxycodone pill was also located in the rear seat with the child. The passenger/mother, Ciera Jones, stated the purse was hers and that she did use pills, according to court documents. She also admitted the oxycodone belonged to her without a prescription. The officer also located used needles throughout the passenger compartment of the vehicle within reach of the child.
Later on May 25, Patrolman Donald S. Kraemer made a traffic stop on Route 33 East for defective equipment on a 2005 GMC Envoy. Upon making contact with the driver, Codey Jones, he was informed that Jones did not have a valid driver’s license. The criminal complaint stated the officer confirmed that it was suspended and discovered Jones also had two prior convictions for driving while license suspended on February 8, 2015 and again on October 13, 2015.
They remain lodged at TVRJ with Codey Jones’ bail set at $80,000 and Ciera Jones’ bail at $75,000. Both are prohibited from having any contact with minor children pending further Court order.
