County remains orange as sports close down for another week

TENNERTON – With Upshur County remaining orange on the latest West Virginia county color-coded COVID-19 map this past Saturday, that will result in another week of cancelations of all Buckhannon-Upshur High School and Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School athletic competitions.

With the county going orange, it wiped out a total of 22 contests at both schools – 15 at the high school and seven at the middle school.

It also wiped out the first conference championship contest for Buckhannon-Upshur as the cross-country teams were going to run in the Big 10 Conference championships Thursday at Grafton.

If a county is listed as orange, they can condition and lift but not play. Red indicates a total shutdown of everything. If Upshur would go gold this Saturday, they could compete against other teams that were also gold.

Being yellow or green on the map indicates the county can fully particpate in athletic games.

If the county returns to green, yellow or gold on the state map this coming Saturday, the Bucs will be able to resume competitions on Monday, Oct. 19.
