County moves to orange as sports close down for at least a week

TENNERTON – With Upshur County going orange on the latest West Virginia county color-coded COVID-19 map on Saturday, that will result in a cancelation of all Buckhannon-Upshur High School and Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School athletic competitions this week.

The lone exemption will be the B-U golf team being able to compete in the state championship today and tomorrow.

With the county going orange, it wiped out a total of 21 contests at both schools – 12 at the high school and nine at the middle school.

If a county is listed as gold, they can schedule another team that is gold, orange indicates that their teams can practice but not play. Red indicates a total shutdown of everything.

If the county returns to green, yellow or gold on the state map this coming Saturday, the Bucs will be able to resume competitions on Monday, Oct. 12.
