BUCKHANNON — The General County Budget for Fiscal Year 2021 is officially balanced at $8,581,286, according to Upshur County Commission President Terry Cutright.
Public Utility values and the anticipated savings expected from the transition back to the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) allowed the Commission to adequately fund County offices and accomplish many of their priorities for the fiscal year. Among the list is replenishing a portion of Financial Stabilization Fund revenues that were expended in Fiscal Year 2019 to satisfy debt payments, one new vehicle each for the Sheriff’s and Maintenance Departments and repairs to the Courthouse, Administrative Annex, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) building and the Upshur County Health Department building, all of which are owned by the County.
The Commission has also increased all personnel budgets by 3.5% with the understanding that the Elected Official in each office will distribute them at his or her discretion. Furthermore, contributions to outside agencies are as follows: $20,000 Buckhannon Upshur Airport Authority, $2,000 Child Advocacy Center, $5,000 Corridor H Regional Development Authority, $10,000 Country Roads Transit, $15,000 Lewis-Upshur Community Corrections, $1,500 Mountain CAP Summer Food Program, $25,000 Stockert Youth and Community Center, $8,000 Tri-County Visitation, $40,000 Upshur County Development Authority, $1,500 Upshur County Parish House and $41,500 Upshur County Public Library.
The Upshur County Commission will consider the balanced budget during their next regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, March 26 in the Commission Meeting Room on the Third Floor of the Courthouse Annex.
