Concord picked to win MEC men’s golf title this spring


BRIDGEPORT — Concord has been picked to defend its Mountain East Conference title in men's golf this spring.

The Mountain Lions were first in the poll with 78 points, including six first-place votes. CU returns four of its five players from the team that won the conference championship in the fall of 2019 at Glade Springs.

Three other teams received first place votes in Charleston, Davis & Elkins and West Liberty. The Golden Eagles, MEC champions in 2017 and 2018, finished second in the poll with 71 points (two first-place votes). Davis & Elkins was picked third with 68 points (one first-place vote), and West Liberty was next with 52 points (one first-place vote).

Fairmont State was just one point behind in the fifth slot with 51 points. Glenville State (35), West Virginia Wesleyan (34), Notre Dame (30), Wheeling (21) and West Virginia State rounded out the poll.

The 2021 MEC Championship is slated for April 20-22 at Avalon Lakes in Warren, Ohio.
