Community support can double donation to American Red Cross by sharing the story on social media

WESTOVER — Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance are proud to announce that Davis Insurance Group has earned a 2021 Make More Happen Award, recognizing its exceptional volunteerism with The American Red Cross Central Appalachia Region, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The award includes a $5,000 donation with a chance to double the amount to $10,000 that will directly benefit the organization

Beginning Wednesday, October 6, the story of Davis Insurance and the Red Cross will be featured on the official Make More Happen microsite www.agentgiving.com/davis-insurance-group allowing the nonprofit a chance to earn the additional $5,000. If the featured story receives at least 500 votes— shares to social media and comments on their story—the donation will be doubled to $10,000.

Blood collection, processing and distribution costs money. The $10,000 donation will benefit the Red Cross’ Sickle Cell trait testing initiative which cost $77 per donor to trait test nearly 30 donors and to cover the cost of two blood drives.

“The Red Cross provides blood and blood products to patients of all demographics as needed, so we are honored that Davis Insurance has the opportunity to support the services they provide in our community,” said Katie Luckini, an independent agent for Davis Insurance. “We are forever grateful to receive this Make More Happen Award from Liberty Mutual and Safeco to provide the Red Cross with the much-needed funds to continue their impactful work.”

Acting as a Community Volunteer Leader at the Red Cross, Luckini, along with her insurance team, supports the organization throughout the year from various fundraisers to blood drives and campaigns including the spring Sound the Alarm Campaign. During this annual event, the Red Cross offers free smoke alarm installation throughout the community primarily for low-income households.

Losing so many reliable blood drive locations at local high schools and universities due to COVID-19, this greatly affected the Red Cross’ sources of blood. Acting quickly, they introduced COVID anti-body screenings that widely increased donors.

“We are so proud of our agents and their commitment to volunteering for important causes in their local communities to raise both funds and awareness,” said Rhonda Deavers Safeco Insurance Mid-Atlantic Region Territory Manager. “The Make More Happen Awards allow our agents to make an even greater impact in West Virginia and we hope it motivates others to do the same.”

Throughout 2021, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select a total of 34 independent agents nationwide for a Make More Happen Award donating up to $340,000 to the nonprofits they support. Agencies became eligible for the award by submitting an application demonstrating their commitment to a specific nonprofit, along with photos of a project they worked on.
