BUCKHANNON — The community mourns the loss of a beloved Upshur County Commissioner. On Thursday, September 1, Terry B. Cutright passed away. Cutright was well-known and loved by many in Upshur County and some of his constituents offered to share their thoughts on this recent loss.
Upshur County Commission President Kristie G. Tenney shared, “It was a blessing to have had the opportunity to work alongside Terry Cutright. He will be missed throughout the courthouse and the entire community. It is hard to believe our time together on the earth has been cut short. Having a colleague that not only was a mentor, but became a close friend, is rare to find. I will always treasure the time I had with him. Terry had such a kind soul and a giving heart. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to witness him give to others time and time again. The impact Terry left will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they go through this difficult time.”
Fellow Commissioner Samuel R. Nolte said, “Terry will be missed by everyone. He knew so many people and to walk down Main Street with Terry, you felt like you knew everyone too. He adored his family and he was a good friend of mine prior to us working with the commission together. We did become super good friends after working together for six years. He was a very up-front and honest man and just pleasant to be around. Terry was a great guy to work with, very community-minded and he always had the best interest of the citizens of Upshur County at heart.”
Upshur County Administrator Tabatha Perry commented, “I am so very fortunate to have worked with Commissioner Cutright during the past seven years. He was a wonderful man with a big heart and an admirable passion for our community. He shared numerous life lessons with me that I often find myself reflecting back on when handling daily situations with my own children. I will cherish those personal and professional talks we had and am grateful that our paths in life crossed. While saddened by our loss, I look forward to continuing to assist the commission in carrying out the projects he helped initiate and not yet completed.”
During the Buckhannon City Council meeting Thursday evening, City Recorder Randy Sanders said, “Today we mourn the loss of Upshur County Commissioner Terry Cutright. Upshur County has lost one of its leaders and I have lost one of my dearest friends. For close to 40 years, I have been honored to lend my voice through radio and my image through television to Ralph’s Furniture. Both Terry and his son Joe allowed me the creative freedom to create commercials providing the technical input of course, so I could sound like I knew what I was talking about. I was reflecting on how to honor Terry this evening and I found something online written by Kari Conaway, Staff Writer for The Record Delta two years ago. I thought it best to honor Terry with his own words in an article he worked with for The Record Delta.” Sanders then read the article in its entirety which is titled, “ Remember When…with Terry Cutright” and can be viewed by visiting https://therecorddelta.com/article/remember-whenwith-terry-cutright. Sanders then summarized, “Terry Cutright was a successful man in many ways. Successful as a family man, as a businessman, as a public servant and as a friend. Terry Cutright was just 34 days shy of his 72nd birthday. God speed my friend, Terry Cutright.”
