Community hosts “ghoul” times for Halloween

TENNERTON — “Trick-or-Treat, our town is so sweet.” Local businesses, organizations and more have already hosted lots of fun activities for the upcoming holiday of Halloween. If you missed out on some of them, no worries because there are still many more events coming up to help you carve out some fun and spooky memories!

Fred Eberle Technical Center (FETC) hosted a “Tech-or-Treat event on Wednesday, October 19. The different programs available at FETC set up booths and areas that were decorated in various eerie themes. Cosmetology students had their mannequin heads strewn along their booth and offered face painting, braiding and nail polish.

Electrical students created a maze and ring toss while nursing students created a creepy scene utilizing their hospital room. There were also crafts including ornament painting in the Collision Repair room and more activities including making s’mores, a haunted house, games and of course a lot of candy and treats!

FETC shared in a Facebook post, “We hope that everyone had a fa- ‘boo’-lous time at our Tech-or-Treat event yesterday! Thank you to our students and staff for the time and care you put into planning the evening, as well as our community for your support. It was so good to see your smiling faces again!”

Stockert Youth and Community Center (SYCC) also hosted a haunted house on Friday, October 21. The event started at 6:30 p.m. and was noted to be “a screaming good time.” SYCC will also be hosting a Halloween Bash on Sunday, October 30 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The Buckhannon Academy of Karate is hosting a fundraiser and there will be raffle baskets, games, face painting, prizes, tricks and treats. SYCC said it is open to everyone and there is something for all ages!

On Saturday, October 22 Sweet A Licious hosted a Family Fall Fest. The event started at 5 p.m. and lasted until 8p.m. A special guest known as Mr. Miles Paugh was there and frequents the shop. Sweet A Licious shared in a Facebook, “Miles is 92 years young and a patriot like no other, he has fought in two wars and is a wealth of knowledge.” Sweet A Licious invited everyone to stop by and thank him for his service. Mr. Paugh brought one of his military jeeps and wore his uniform to the event. 

Sweet A Licious also hosted Dalmatian Diva Princess for meet and greets and photo opportunities. Children were invited to wear their costumes and participate in a costume contest. Popsicles were given to all children who came to the event for free!

In addition to the fun listed above, Sweet A Licious also had face painting, caramel apples, hot chocolate, popcorn and churros available for purchase. The event winded down with a showing of the movie Spookley the Square Pumpkin!

More events will be taking place in Upshur County for Halloween including the Berry Bandit Glow After Dark Ride which is hosted by the West Virginia Strawberry Festival. The event will take place on Saturday, October 29 at Long Run in Ellamore and registration begins at 3 p.m.  More details can be found by searching Berry Bandit Glow After Dark Ride on Facebook. 

The Selbyville Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a Junior/Auxiliary Dance and Hayride on Saturday, October 22 at 6 p.m. Details can be obtained by visiting the Selbyville Junior/Auxiliary Dance and Hayride page on Facebook. 

On Sunday, October 30 Lolli and Pops Ice Cream Shop is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat from noon to 3 p.m. Visit them on Facebook for more information.

The City of Buckhannon has shared that the official day and time for Trick-or-Treat in the Buckhannon City limits is on Monday, October 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
