Community Care of West Virginia launches Telehealth Service in response to COVID-19


BUCKHANNON — Local health care provider Community Care of West Virginia has launched telehealth care services in an effort to expand availability of quality health care and to limit exposure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

"Community Care of WV has invested in telehealth technology to better connect our patients in rural areas with health care services they need close to home. With the spread of COVID-19 and the official announcement of a case in West Virginia, we have accelerated deployment to ensure care while aiding compliance with social distancing recommendations," said Patricia Collett, Chief Operating Officer.

 

The telehealth visits are an attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19, or the Coronavirus, and encourage people to stay at home during this time. Individuals can switch their existing appointments to a video visit or schedule a new video visit with any provider by calling or texting their respective CCWV location.

 

Those interested in taking advantage of the telehealth option will require a device with video and audio capability - laptop, smartphone or tablet. A link to a private Zoom call will be sent after contacting and confirming the video appointment with CCWV. Individuals that do not have video or internet capabilities can call their CCWV location for information about available options for alternatives to scheduling and in person medical appointment.

 

"In addition to setting up video visits, we have also launched treatment sites to help separate our patients that are exhibiting symptoms from those that are coming to our offices for their regular appointments," expanded Collett. "We ask that individuals that are symptomatic or think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 to call in advance of seeking care."

 

Steps to help treat and separate patients include screening of symptoms over the phone, additional alerts, notices and instructions for proper hygiene and etiquette, separate offices established for symptomatic patients, dedicated equipment, and identification of essential personnel designated to treat potentially infected persons.

 

"This is a time of uncertainty for our people and it is our responsibility to ensure medical care continues to be delivered to help protect both our healthy and our most vulnerable populations," states Collett. While resources and personnel may be shifted to those communities demonstrating the highest need, Community Care of West Virginia will continue to operate all clinics during normal office hours.
