Commission approves bid proposal for janitorial services

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Commission had a bid opening, presentation, and award for janitorial services for various county owned properties located within Upshur County on Thursday morning.

The Commission only received one bid from Quality Home and Office, which is their current provider, according to Assistant Administrator Tabatha Perry. Perry reviewed the bid application to make sure all required documentation was present and determined it was complete. This contract will include janitorial services for the Courthouse, Administrative Annex, and the 911 Communications Center Office.

Given approval from the Commission, the contract will commence November 1, at a rate of approximately $3,388 a month. This bid is an increase of $98.70 from their last contract, according to Perry. She noted this increase may be from the amendment in the contract, adding the language to state that background checks conducted within the first 30 days of the contract will be included; however, any additional background checks would be paid for by the contractor. This was added to the high turnover the past couple of years and the increase in background checks. “It just made sense,” Perry reported to Commissioners.

The contract does conclude after one year, but it can be renewed up to three years. Commissioners approved the bid Thursday morning.

In other news for the Upshur County Commission, the following agenda items were approved: Upshur County Youth Camp Property Timber Sale Request for Proposals and Prospectus; Correspondence from Sheriff Virgil D. Miller requesting the transfer of Mark Cunningham from part-time Court Bailiff to full-time Court Bailiff, effective October 15, 2021; Correspondence from Kimbra Wachob, Upshur County Emergency Communications Center Assistant Director, requesting the employment of Danielle Riffle, as full-time telecommunicator, effective October 25, 2021; Correspondence from Kimbra Wachob, Upshur County Emergency Communications Center Assistant Director, requesting a revision of starting pay for Marissa Taylor and Brittney Wood to be concurrent with the pay wage rates previously approved during budget hearings; and resignation of an employee.

The next regular meeting of the Upshur County Commission will take place October 21 at 9:00 a.m.
