Coming soon: Pay your taxes online

BUCKHANNON — Residents have asked for it and now the Upshur County Sheriff’s Tax Office is ready to deliver.

Come July 15, taxpayers may pay all real and personal property taxes online. Simply log on to, click on the tab for government, scroll down to the link for sheriff/tax office and then click the link for taxes. That will take the user to the screen to search for their tax records and then they can select the payment option.

Sheriff David Coffman said online tax payments are something his tax office has been working toward for the past three years.

Due to monetary constraints, it was not feasible before but the county has provided about $10,000 to start up the online tax payments.

“We are trying to move the tax office into the 21st century,” Coffman said.

There is a small fee for credit card users, 2.75 percent of the total amount, and for VISA debit card holders a set fee of $3.95.

And for residents looking for their mailed tax statements, chief tax deputy Heather Parke said those will be mailed out beginning next week.

For those who want to know right of way, they can check their tax records online at the same link as above.

Anyone with questions about the online payment system, should contact the tax office at 304-472-1180.
