MORGANTOWN — Buckhannon-Upshur High School head coach Robert Greenough’s 2022 edition of the Lady Buccaneers soccer team kicked off the season with a trip North to play Morgantown last Wednesday, August 17.
The Lady Bucs kept things close in the first half, ending the opening frame only trailing by a goal, 1 to 0. However, the second half belonged to the Lady Mohigans, as they racked up six goals en route to a 7 to 0 win. The potent Morgantown attack outpaced the Lady Bucs in terms of shots on goal by a 14 to 3 margin which is likely at least partly attributable to their lead in time of possession in the second half.
Goalkeeper Kendal Davis and the Lady Buccaneers back line put up a valiant losing effort, as the Lady Buccaneers defense kept things close in the first half, but a six goal second half on a barrage of shots on goal culminated in the season opening loss.
The young Lady Buccaneers offensive attack didn’t generate much headway against a veteran Lady Mohigan squad, however there is a lot of room for this young group to gel and find their rhythm as a unit as the season progresses.
