WARREN, Ohio — Clifford G. Carpenter, 87, of Champion, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 6, 2017, at Washington Square Health Care. He was born July 30, 1929, in Luke, Md., the son of the late Earl and Lori (Clark) Carpenter.
On April 12, 1952, Clifford married the former Betty Hymes, with whom he has spent 64 wonderful years and shared many memories.
He was a retired pastor with Austin Village, Southington, and Windham Baptist Churches. Clifford served for a brief time as acting director of missions, Steel Valley Baptist Association, and will be remembered for playing guitar and singing throughout his life, and was also part of the “’Gospelheirs.” Clifford was a combat veteran of the United States Army having served during Korean War.
Clifford’s memory will be carried on by his loving wife, Betty Carpenter of Champion, Ohio; sons, James (Sherry) Carpenter of Columbus, Ohio and Jerry (Norma) Carpenter of Howland, Ohio; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Carpenter, Bonnie (David) Caynor and Loretta Miller all of Buckhannon; a brother Rev. Billy Carpenter of New Cumberland, brother-in-law O’Neal Miller Buckhannon, WV and sister-in-law Lee Ellen Carpenter, of Charlotte, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Hubert “Butch,” Vernon and William Carpenter, as well as sisters; Patty Miller, Norma Jean Osborn and Hazel Carpenter.
Services will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 5418 Mahoning Ave NW, Warren, OH 44483, on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11:00 am, where Pastors Jim Dittmar and William Sprague will officiate. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the church and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.Interment will be in Champion Township Cemetery, Champion, OH where Military Honors will be held.
