City Council receives local reports

BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon City Council received brief reports from each local department during the meeting on Tuesday.

Buckhannon Fire Department’s Chief JB Kimble started the meeting by recognizing two new volunteer firefighters  Emma Reger and Zachary Conrad, whom recently joined the Buckhannon Volunteer Fire Department. Kimble and the council commended Reger and Conrad, as volunteer work has been difficult to find, explaining that their service is much needed and appreciated in the department. Kimble then reported this year’s number of call responses to date totaled 1,200 as of Tuesday evening. The chief concluded with a report on his reoccurring meetings with Buckhannon City Recorder Randy Sanders to formulate an emergency management plan for the upcoming 2023 World Association of Marching Show Bands competition hosted in Buckhannon.

Public Works Director Jerry Arnold provided his report, announcing that the City’s paving contractor began paving Lincoln Street and then Spring Street will follow after completion. Next in his report, Arnold announced Amos Tenney as the new Waste Collection Truck Driver. Arnold concluded by announcing that City Hall’s roof replacement is 90% complete.

Last for reports, Amberle Jenkins updated the council on the City’s General Funds budget statements. After Jenkins highlighted expenditures and revenues for the month, council members approved her report, as well as Jenkins’s purchase of a new sound system for the council chambers. When installed, the project should improve the sound and video quality of meetings in City Hall.

The next City Council meeting will take place on December 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.
