BUCKHANNON — The Church Women United group recently prepared flowers for delivery to Upshur County Seniors who receive Meals on Wheels for Valentine’s Day.

The theme for this Valentine’s Day was “Spreading the Love.”  The Buckhannon-Upshur Unit chose to donate flowers to the Meals on Wheels clients of the Senior Center, according to member Cathy Vance. The flowers were purchased and delivered to 80 individuals. The donations for this project came from different church women’s groups and individuals.

Vance noted, the “Spread the Love” theme from the national organization suggested donating school supplies to school districts nationwide. “In regard to our school levy and the changes of school schedules, we chose to honor some of our Seniors,” she explained.

Vance reported that the Seniors who received the flowers were very surprised, “especially the men.” She said that they were all thrilled to know that they were thought of this Valentine’s Day.

Since 1941, members of the Church Women United Movement have held a vision of Christian unity and prayerful action. CWU was founded as a racially, culturally, theologically, inclusive Christian women’s movement to celebrate unity and diversity and work for peace in the world.
