CCA too much for Bucs in title tilt

Frye records double-double in losing effort

TENNERTON — Capitol Christian Academy (Md.) captured the Buccaneer Christmas Classic for the second straight season with an 83-40 win over host Buckhannon-Upshur on Thursday afternoon.
The Warriors are now 19-3 on the season and were playing their third game in two days.
Before defeating Grove City (Ohio), 73-72, in Wednesday’s opening round of the tourney at B-UHS, they started the day off by knocking off Charlotte Basketball Academy, 72-48, at Salisbury, Md., in  a morning contest.
The Bucs couldn’t match CCA’s athleticism and heighth as they trailed by 26, 41-15, at the intermission.
But B-U made a run to start the third quarter and cut the deficit to 47-27 on a 3-pointer by Brennan Frye. The Warriors then closed the canto on a 13-2 run to regain control and carry a 60-29 lead into the final quarter.
Alvin Cox, a 6-foot-3 guard, paced CCA with 22 points. Fellow guard Kieron Williams followed with 18 and Kobby Ayetey, a 6-7 forward, added 15.
Frye paced the Bucs a double-double, scoring 19 points and collecting 10 rebounds. Tristan Fulton chipped in nine and Taylor Whitehair added five.
B-U is now 5-3 on the season. The Bucs will return to Big 10 Conference play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against North Marion.
