‘Cats open MEC play with 7-0 win over West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY — The West Virginia Wesleyan men opened their Mountain East title defense with a 7-0 win over West Liberty University here Wednesday afternoon.

The Bobcats, 5-5 overall and 1-0 MEC, won their second road match in as many days by claiming the doubles point and sweeping through the singles.

The 'Cats dropped only one set in singles on the day, but the doubles was a different story.

After the Bobcats' Harry Simaioforidis and Maycon Dias served out a 6-4 win at #1, the Hilltoppers stormed back from 2-5 to win the #3 match in a tie-breaker to even the point.

The Bobcats needed a comeback, tie-breaker win of their own at #2 doubles from Lukas Laipold and Christos Kyrillou to seal the point and give them the early lead.

Wesleyan will now travel to UVa.-Wise Saturday for their next match, also a conference foe.

Match time is 3:30 p.m. in Wise at the college facility.
