BUCKHANNON — The Foundation for Better Schools in Upshur County needs your help to get the “Go Wild, Feed a Child” campaign to the top finalists to receive much needed grant funding.
The campaign is currently in the top 200 finalists for the Neighborhood Assist Grant through State Farm, but it needs your votes to succeed. If the campaign is successful, funding will benefit the backpack program, which provides weekend meals to any Upshur County student in need. The next step in securing one of the 40 available $25,000 grants, is to receive the popular votes.
The top 200 finalists nationwide began competing for the most votes Wednesday, August 18 and will be open for voting through August 27. Anyone can log onto the site at www.neighborhoodassist/entry/2039107 to vote. People can also cast votes using the unique QR code in the accompanying photo, or find one at local participating restaurants, as well as the Upshur County Schools Facebook page.
Everyone who registers must be 18 or older, a US citizen, and have a valid email address. Individuals wishing to help this cause can vote up to 10 times per day for the full 10-day period. Votes will reportedly be tallied several times daily to let all campaigns know their standings.
“It is our hope, as the only candidate in the state of West Virginia, that we can get all 10 daily votes. Our goal is to come out strong and remain in the top 40,” said Kenna Leonard, representative of the backpack program.
