BUHS Athlete of the Week 1-15-2022

#2, Junior Point Guard Zack Calef-Boring

The junior point guard has been a reliable floor general and consistent contributor for the Buckhannon-Upshur High School boys’ varsity team. Boring is a solid playmaker and lead ball-handler, taking care of the ball and getting the Bucs into the right plays offensively. Boring put together possibly his best game against the Liberty Mountaineers, scoring 13 points to go along with 2 steals, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. In the Bucs last game back on back on Monday, January 3, Boring recorded 3 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a rebound putting up a valiant effort in a loss.

#13, Senior Guard Olivia Ellis

Senior guard Olivia Ellis is the emotional heartbeat for her team. Ellis is always the first to cheer a teammate and congratulate them on a big play. Ellis can almost al-ways be found with a smile on her face, being a beacon of optimism no matter how the game is trending. Ellis’ game is defined by infectious energy and her willingness to make the selfless play. Ellis has played key minutes this year for the Lady Bucs varsity team. This past Saturday, January 8 against Wheeling Park, Ellis scored 6 points on 3 made 2-point field goals. She followed up her solid performance by being the “glue girl” for the Lady Bucs against Liberty, doing a lot of small things to help her team to victory. On her senior night against Liberty, she was honored with the traditional ceremony rewarding her dedication to the Lady Bucs basketball pro-gram. Overall, the best way to sum up Ellis is that she is the epitome of what a teammate should strive to be. Her impact on the team’s morale and chemistry is unquestioned.
