BRIDGEPORT — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School (B-UHS) Swim team held their first meet at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport on Monday, December 14, 2022, under the leadership of Head Coach Jennifer Bennett. The Buccaneers are committed to having a great season.

Senior Preston Bennett had a good showing, breaking his own school record in the 200 IM from 2021. Bennett recorded a new time of 2:05:44 (previously 2:07:87).

Noting the veteran presence the team possesses, Coach Bennett explained the expectations set forth this season. “We have a veteran team this year, with all returning swimmers except for one freshman,” said Bennett. “We have great leadership in three of those seniors, with Cadence Vincent, Preston Bennett and Alayna Whitehair, all state champions.”

The Bucs feature fellow seniors Owen Caynor, Bradly Helmick and Reis Leonard, who Bennett explained are the foundations of leading the underclassmen into the future. “This is a great opportunity for everyone to set an example. Even though we have one newcomer, it’s still the ability to help guide everyone else into the proper direction.” said Bennett.
