Bucs run third at North Marion Husky Invitational

RACHEL – The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer track and field team won two events here Friday and finished third overall in the UMWA/North Marion Husky Invitational.

The Bucs won one individual event and one relay event.

Jordan Weston won the shot put with a toss of 39-09.75 while the 4 x 100-meter shuttle hurdles team of Drew Griffith, Rondon Caesar, Dakota Smith and Damien Claypool took first in their event with a time of 1:06.89.

The Bucs earned a trio of runner-up spots.

Joseph Tomasula took second in the 200-meter dash (23.98), Samuel Walker finished second in the 1600-meter run (4:45.36) and Zach Barcus placed second in the long jump (19-00).

Weston finished a strong third in the discus with a heave of 110-06 while Claypool was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a clocking of 17.90.

The 4 x 400-meter relay unit of Smith, Cory Hamner, Julius Hobbs and Griffith took third (3:48.23) while the 4 x 100-meter relay foursome of Cameron Ervin, Claypool, Tomasula and Trenton Westfall placed fourth (46.71) as did the 4 x 200-meter relay quartet of Ervin, Tomasula, Smith and Westfall (1:38.61).

Individual fourths went to Tomasula in the 100-meter dash (11.77), Smith in the 400-meter dash (53.98), Hobbs in the pole vault (9-00) and Ryan Bevans in the shot put (36-10.25).

The Bucs finished with 93 points for their third-place finish.

Morgantown won the team title with 159 points while North Marion was second with 104.

Liberty was fourth with 59 and Lewis County rounded out the top five in fifth.

The Bucs will be off this week for spring break and will return to the track next Tuesday for their weekly home meet at 4 p.m.
