Bucs prepare to face Greenbrier East away on Friday

FAIRLEA — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School football team has been practicing hard all week with uplifted spirits after a big win against Philip Barbour’s Colts last Friday. The Buccaneers have seen sparks of greatness in their last two games with big plays from senior Savion Farmer and sophomore Bryson Johnston in their well-earned win.

Coach Zach Davis said the team is pumped up after their victory last week. “Bryson Johnston was jacked after his incredible intercepted pass for a 99-yard touchdown,” stated Davis.

The Buccaneers will head to Lewisburg this Friday, September 17, to play the Greenbrier East Spartans. Last year, the Buccaneers struggled against the Spartans at home amidst an unconventional season that had more challenges than just getting points on the football field.

The Bucs look to utilize their strong freshman linemen of Darrin Daughtery and Bear Matheny in keeping the Spartans out of the endzone this week. The Spartans lost several key offensive players from last season to graduation, but they return with a tough offensive line anchored by 6’5” stand out senior lineman Jacob Wickline.

The Spartans are also coming off a loss to a very tough Robert C. Byrd team and will be hungry for a win. Coach Davis said, “Every season is a new season; every week is a new week.”

The Bucs (1-1) are ready for their next challenge against Greenbrier East (2-1) and looking for redemption.

The Buccaneers look to stay in the win column in what will be an exciting football game. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. in Fairlea.
