Bucs fall short at cross country Regionals

KINGWOOD — The Bucs saw a lot of success in the 2021 season, but they failed to qualify any runners for the 2021 WV State Cross Country Championship to be held at the end of the month.

Junior Jordan Gillum was the top runner for the Bucs, placing 15th out of the field of 54 runners in the region. Region I in AAA is known as the toughest region in the state due to the presence of traditional distance powerhouses, Morgantown, Preston, Wheeling Park and University.

The Bucs finished fifth in the region with Reis Leonard (23rd), Logan Wyatt (31st), Jack Waggy (33rd), Brycen Allen (35th), Alex Casto (46th) and Rhett Amens (54th) rounding out the field.

Head Coach Taylor Stacey remarked, “I am extremely proud of both teams and how they competed. The boys fell a little short against some of the best competition in the state, but they have nothing to hang their heads on. We had some great runs all around, it just wasn’t quite enough to get the job done.”
