MORGANTOWN — The Buckhannon-Upshur baseball team saw a late rally fall short in dropping a hard-fought 6-4 decision to University Monday night in opening round of the Class AAA, Region 1, Section 2 tournament at Mylan Park.
The loss sent the Bucs (13-7) into the loser’s bracket against Preston Tuesday night at William E. Phillips Memorial Field. The winner of that game will travel to either University or Morgantown today for another elimination game.
B-U, which lost to UHS, 13-0, back in the season opener, trailed 4-0 before tying the game on Andrew Herron’s groundout in the sixth.
But the Hawks answered in the home-half of the frame to take the lead for good on a two-run double by Austin Forbes.
Trahern White smacked an RBI single in the fourth and Alek Seech a two-run single in the fifth for the Bucs.
Taylor Whitehair took the loss for B-U.
Cam Stoldt earned the win for University, which battled Morgantown in Tuesday’s winner bracket contest.
