Fulton nets 16 as B-U improves to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in Big 10 Conference play

TENNERTON — Buckhannon-Upshur placed three players in double figures to coast past Liberty, 68-45, Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action.
The Bucs are now 6-4 overall and 5-1 in Big 10 play. They travel to undefeated and No. 3 University at 7:30 p.m. today in a battle of sectional foes.
Senior point guard Tristan Fulton led the way for coach Eli Gurash’s squad, netting a game-high 16 points, dishing out three assists and collecting four steals.
He was joined in double figures by Brennan Frye with 15 points and Nathan Tolliver with 13. Frye just missed a double-double by collecting nine rebounds.
B-U took control early, jumping out to a 12-2 lead and carrying a 17-8 edge into the second quarter.
The Bucs used a 3-pointer by Kobe Starnes early in the second canto to build a 21-8 cushion and a pair of free throws from Fulton after he was fouled on a steal pushed the margin to 20, at 35-15, at the intermission.
The teams exchanged scores througout the early stages of the third quarter with a basket by Dalton Westfall bringing the Mountaineers to within 43-25 midway through the frame.
But B-U used a 9-5 run to close the quarter en route to building a 22-point advantage (52-30) after three quarters.
The Bucs held a 16-13 scoring edge in the final period.
Westfall finished with 15 points and Chance Howell 10 for Liberty, which dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in Big 10 games.
