Bucs bow to Tigers; Hold off late rally by Robert C. Byrd

TENNERTON — Elkins blew open a close game with a six-run outburst in the seventh inning to deal the Buckhannon-Upshur baseball team an 8-1 setback on Saturday.
The Bucs are now 1-2 on the early season. Their home game against Preston on Tuesday was postponed and they were scheduled to visit North Marion on Thursday.
The game was deadlocked at 1-1 before the Tigers plated a single run in the fifth and six in the seventh.
Taylor Whitehair took the loss for B-U. He gave up a pair of runs on four hits in five innings, fanning four and walking two.
Matthew Gainer earned the win for Elkins in three innings of relief. Blake Loftis had a homer and two RBIs for the Tigers.

CLARKSBURG — Logan Whitehair went six strong innings and Trahern White smacked a grand slam as Buckhannon-Upshur held off Robert C. Byrd, 14-9, last Thursday in Big 10 Conference play.
Whitehair went the first six innings, allowing just three runs (one earned) and fanning six.
B-U held a 14-3 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning before the Eagles rallied for six runs.
White had three hits on the day, while Dalton Marple had a pair of RBI doubles and Nick Calef-Boring tallied three RBIs.
