Buckhannon Post 7 crushes Weston; falls to Garrett in regular-season finale

TENNERTON – Buckhannon Post 7 closed out their regular season splitting a pair of games last week.

On Thursday, they traveled to Weston and cruised past Post 4 in a 16-5 victory in an Area V game that was called after five innings on the mercy rule.

Then they wrapped up the regular season with a 10-2 home loss on Friday to Garrett County Post 71/214.

The split left general manager Kevin Boring’s squad with a 10-12 record overall and a 6-2 Area V mark.

Against Weston, Trey Leigh spearheaded the offense with two home runs and a double and collected five runs-batted-in.

Buckhannon put the game out of reach in the first inning with a seven-run frame after sending 13 batters to the plate.

They did all their damage on just two hits, a double by Leigh and a single by Taylor Whitehair.

Post 7 was assisted in the inning by six walks and three Weston errors.

They scored seven more in the second inning for a 14-0 lead.

Leigh had the big hit of the inning with a three-run blast while Elijah Arbogast, Logan Bailey, Alek Seech and Nick Calef-Boring each knocked in a run.

Whitehair hit a lead-off triple in the top of the third and scored on a single by Arbogast to make it a 15-0 contest.

Weston got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs.

Buckhannon scored their 16th run in the top of the fourth when Leigh blasted his second home run of the game.

Weston pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fifth to wrap up the scoring.

Arbogast also collected three hits in the victory and knocked in two runs while Bailey and Whitehair each had two hits.

Casey Hamner went the distance for Post 7 to improve his record to 3-1.

He surrendered three earned runs on six hits while striking out seven.

Connor Johnson led the Weston offense with two hits.

Tim Hunt started the game for Weston and absorbed the loss going just 2/3 of an inning.

He gave up two hits and walked five.

In Friday’s game, Garrett County scored a run in the top of the first when Cory Ashby singled home Brandon Lucas.

Bailey cracked a home run to lead off the bottom of the first for Post 7 deadlocking the game at 1-1.

Post 7 took their only lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the second when Whitehair scored on Zach White’s ground out.

Garrett County chased across five runs in the top of the fourth with the help of two Buckhannon errors.

Hayden McLaughlin had the big hit for Garrett County, a three-run home run.

That treated Garrett County to a 6-2 lead.

Carsyn King doubled home Sam Beeman in the top of the fifth to up Garrett County’s lead to 7-2.

Garrett County added three more runs in the top of the sixth to ice the game away.

Buckhannon mustered six hits in the loss with Seech and Calef-Boring each getting two apiece.

Bailey (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season going 4 1/3 innings.

Just two of the seven runs he allowed were earned as he gave up 10 hits and struck out two.

Lucas went a perfect four-for-four at the plate for Garrett County.

Zach Hallenbeck picked up the win going six innings and giving up just one earned run on six hits.

Buckhannon will now prepare for the Area V Tournament which begins on Wednesday and will be hosted by Elkins Post 29 at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Buckhannon will be the second seed and face third seed Weston Wednesday at 5 p.m.
