TENNERTON — Buckhannon’s own Tanner McGrew recently announced his intentions to play for the Best Virginia team in the $1-million dollar “The Basketball Tournament”. This year’s edition of the #TBT is scheduled to tip off on July 16, with the championship game set for August 2.
McGrew made the announcement on his social media accounts, stating, “It’s official! I’ll be joining Best Virginia this year in the TBT, with regionals in Charleston! I’ve spent a lot of time with the WVU alumni over the last few years, so sharing the court with some of them this summer will be great! Be on the lookout for camp dates and our exhibition game in Fairmont in July.”
The game of basketball has taken McGrew all over, from his humble beginnings at Buckhannon-Upshur High School then at West Virginia Wesleyan College to Australia, France, the NBA G-League and many other stops in between, but this new opportunity provides him a chance to once again represent his home state.
Best Virginia head coach and former WVU basketball player, James Long spoke to media about what McGrew is poised to bring to the squad, saying “Tanner is a great fit for Best Virginia. He is a very cerebral basketball player who can bring different things to each lineup he plays with.”
