Buckhannon man faces charges for striking mother

BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County man is facing a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery after allegedly striking his mother on Tuesday, according to court documents.

Phillip Andrew Ward, 25, of Buckhannon, reportedly admitted to striking his mother on her right arm at her residence on Democrat Ridge on July 13 when Sgt. Rodney Rolenson arrived to investigate. When he allegedly committed the most recent offense, Ward was already on bond for previously being charged for committing the same offense against his mother.

The accused is prohibited from any contact with the victim as a condition of bail. He will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing upon release from jail and during the pendency of this case.

If convicted, Ward will face up to one year in jail and/or a fine of no more than $500. He is currently being detained at Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of a $5,000 cash only bond, set by Upshur County Magistrate Alan Suder.
