Buckhannon Elks donate funds to Upshur Co. EMS

BUCKHANNON — On Tuesday, September 13, the Buckhannon Elks Lodge No. 1736, located at 47 North Kanawha Street, donated $750 to the Upshur County Emergency Medical Services. The funds will be used to purchase new equipment for EMS providers. Both members from the Elks and from the Upshur County EMS gathered at the Upshur County EMS, located at 164 Pocahontas Street, on Tuesday afternoon for the event.

Rob Posey and Jim Levere, who serve on the House Committee for the Buckhannon Elks, were present and gifted the funds to Director for the Upshur County EMS Gloria Burr. Posey said, “The Buckhannon Elks have donated this $750 to the Upshur County EMS. The funds were raised through the Hank Ellis Senior Memorial Golf Tournament. We raised $4,700 at the tournament so we are giving two $1,000 scholarships to a Buckhannon-Upshur High School, boy and girl, and another $1,000 scholarship at Fred Eberle Technical Center for a senior student there.” Posey advised anyone interested in a scholarship application should speak with their guidance counselor for details. Posey also noted another $750 will be gifted to another Buckhannon location at a later date.

The Elks are very community involved and have an upcoming event, known as the Cash Bash, which is to be held in October. Details will be released later, but anyone with questions should contact the Buckhannon Elks by calling (304) 472-9886 or by visiting their website at https://www.elks.org/lodges/contactus.cfm?lodge=1736.

Burr was excited and appreciative of the funding. Burr noted that with the funds the Upshur County EMS will purchase updated thermometers and portable pulse ox devices that also have pediatric attachments. “We are just so appreciative and thankful,” said Burr.
