Buckhannon author publishes first book

BUCKHANNON — The story of a scandalous affair written in the dark of a power outage has become the first published novel for one local author. “Out of Bounds,” written by Buckhannon resident Xesia Horner (the X pronounced as a K), follows a young woman learning to cope shortly after her parents’ divorce.  She falls in love with her best friend’s father and the two have a secret affair, but she begins to wonder if the relationship is worth lying to her loved ones.
The story is intended for mature readers as it contains adult content.
“Out of Bounds” is the first book in a planned series of novels.  Horner was originally inspired to write it during a power outage in the summer of 2015.
“It was hot as all get-out,” she said. “There was nothing else to do.”
The rest of the series will most likely be written during spring and summer, as that is Horner’s preferred time to write.  She noted that winter does nothing for her in the way of inspiration.
The publication of her novel comes as Horner struggles with health issues. A life threatening battle with diabetes in 2015 inspired her to become a fitness coach, but that was put on hold due to a new battle with lupus that emerged last September.  Horner said she is taking the advice of doctors and dedicating her time to recovering.
Horner is married with four fur children: two dogs, a cat and a fish.  She has been writing since the sixth grade and continues to practice her craft a few hours every evening.
You can purchase “Out of Bounds” on Amazon as an eBook or hardcopy.
