TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School boys lacrosse team will compete for a state title Saturday at Fairmont’s East-West Stadium.
The Bucs (8-5) of head coach Kevin Ware are set to face Berkeley County at 11 a.m. in the WVSLA Division II championship game. The teams met earlier this season with the Pride taking a 16-8 victory.
B-U knocked off top-seed John Marshall, 9-7, on Saturday to advance, rallying from a 6-2 deficit by outscoring the Monarchs 7-1 in the final quarter.
Senior Dylan Perkins tallied seven goals to lead the Bucs in the victory, while Ian Greenough and Cam Payne accounted for the other scores.
Payne tops the team in goals with 27, followed by Perkins (35) and Levi Myers (24).
Other leaders include Austin Carpenter (131 ground balls), Cole Tonkin (44 face off wins) and Jack Wilson (150 saves in goal).
Berkeley County, meanwhile, held off Preston 11-9 to advance.
This is the first title game appearance for the Bucs, while Berkeley County won the 2014 championship.
