HODGESVILLE — Customers have been pumping gas at Bruce’s Store since November and the owners celebrated Thursday with a ribbon cutting.
The investment to put in gas pumps at the location totaled just over $300,000, but it was something owners Bruce and Jackie Bennett decided needed to happen.
Customers have been asking for gas pumps since the store opened 18 years ago.
“They have talked about it for years,” Bruce Bennett said. “I didn’t realize until the customers started coming in. This end of the county doesn’t have anything like the southern end of the county does. It needs to grow. There are a lot of people down here to be served.”
Bennett recognized the work of Bolger Brothers Inc., Joe DeFazio Oil and Steve Corder Contracting and the Department of Environmental Protection in getting the gas station part of the business open.
The Bennetts opened their store in 1999, fulfilling a long-time dream. The community supporting their business has been important over the years.
“It’s a demanding job, but we enjoy it,” he said.
With continued support, there may be diesel fuel added in the future, according to Bennett.
