Brooks Hill Fair hosts annual ATV ride

FRENCH CREEK — Brooks Hill Fair hosted their annual dice/ATV ride with live music on Saturday, July 23. The 30-mile ride began at the Brooks Hill Fair ground by the James W. Curry Library, continued through Helvetia, Pickens and Shahan bottom, then concluded back at the Brooks Hill site.

The dice roll and 50/50 winners donated their winnings back to the event for the Brooks Hill Community Building to use for upgrades. All proceeds went to the building for maintenance as well.

Vendors were set up with knick-knacks, tie-dye shirts and food available for purchase. The turnout was great, and several attendees stated what a great time that had.

The day began sunny and reached a high of 97 degrees. However, upon returning from the ride, the intense hailstorm rolled in, knocking several tents over and scattering merchandise throughout the area. The unexpected change of weather didn’t stop most from enjoying the event. Although the temperature dropped almost 30 degrees, the musicians moved their instruments and equipment underneath the porch awning of the community building and stayed to play music for those who wanted to hang out a little longer.

“It wasn’t the greatest ending for our day, but we are happy that those who stayed during the storm still had a wonderful time. A little hail won’t stop us,” expressed one community building employee.
