Brenda Sue “Suzi” Herrod

Brenda Sue “Suzi” Herrod, 76, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. 

Mrs. Herrod was born on July 28, 1943, in Weston, WV, the only daughter of the late Bernard and Gwendolyn Crumit. 

She shared four children with the late Richard Lee Dewey. Their children are Kedron Alfred and husband Jasper of Buckhannon, WV; Karla Dewey and long-time friend Richard Gum of Weston, WV; Kendal Dewey; and Krista Dewey Turner, who preceded Suzi in death on March 21, 2013. On July 19, 1999, she married her best friend, Virgil Herrod. He also preceded her in death on March 17, 2011.

Mrs. Herrod is survived by eight grandchildren: David Dewey of Buckhannon, SeArista Harvey of Atlanta, GA, Tiffany Alfred of Chantilly, VA, Derek Woodson of Huntington, Kelsey Turner of Clarksburg, Dylan Dewey of Weston, Erika Alfred and Caiden Alfred both of Buckhannon; five great-grandchildren: Mykyia, Dakota, Aubrey, Brylea, Levi, and another great-grandson due in December. 

In addition to her parents and daughter, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Jim and Chuck Crumit. 

Mrs. Herrod was a hard worker and had many occupations. Some of the most memorable were the Lewis County glass factories and being among the first female guards at Moundsville State Penitentiary. Suzi was an avid member of Alcoholics Anonymous and her passion was the work she did in the AA and addiction community.  Her proudest accomplishments were her 27 years of sobriety and the sponsorship of many individuals as they worked the program toward recovery.

Suzi’s request for cremation has been honored. Her family and friends will gather at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 7 p.m. with the Reverend Jeff Norris officiating.
