Bobcats drop road decision to Ohio Valley

PARKERSBURG – West Virginia Wesleyan’s Bobcats dropped a 15-4 decision to Ohio Valley’s Fighting Scots here Thursday in a non-conference contest.
The ‘Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Hunter Rotarius drew a walk, James Fraser belted a run-scoring double to left-center field, and John Koon followed with a run-producing single to right.
Ohio Valley answered with a solo marker in the bottom of the frame, with Charles Emery rapping a lead-off single, advancing on Travis Perkola’s bunt sacrifice, and sprinting home on Jake Carr’s two-bagger down the left field line.
Wesleyan made it 3-1 in the second when Austin Keene led off with a single through the left side, moved up on Dylan Frye’s bunt, and scored on a single to center by Rotarius.
The Fighting Scots erupted for four markers in the third to take a 5-3 lead on a walk, Spencer Miller’s double, and singles by Carr, Mitch Davis, Andrew Morales and Bryce Strawderman, and ran the count to 8-3 with three in the fourth, using a walk, an error, singles by Perkola and Justin Gil, and a sacrifice fly to center by Morales.
The Bobcats picked up their final run in the top of the fifth stanza, with Fraser walking, Koon singling, and an error allowing the run to cross.
Ohio Valley plated two in the lower half of the fifth. Emery singled up the middle and rode home on Perkola’s double to left-center, and after Carr walked, Gil lined a single up the middle to plate Perkola.
The Scots upped the spread to 13-4 with three in the sixth, cashing  in on a walk, a hit batsman and a passed ball, and  getting a double from Perkola, and a single from Emery.
They finished it off with a pair in the eighth on singles by Perkola and Carr, and Matt Houser’s double to left-center field.
The ‘Cats collected eight hits, with Koon accounting for three.
Perkola paced Ohio Valley’s 19-hit attack with a four-for-four day, with Emery, Carr and Gil belting three apiece.
Ryan Giberson started on the mound, with Julio Medina, Alex Wall, Zach Henderson, Griffin Roe, Chris Metrick and Regan Manley throwing in relief. Wall was charged with the loss.
The ‘Cats saw their record fall to 1-11 going into Sunday’s home doublet with West Liberty’s Hilltoppers in opening Mountain East Conference action. They are slated to entertain Wheeling Jesuit’s Cardinals in another league twin bill today.
