Bobcat tennis team loses opener to West Liberty, 7-0


WHEELING – The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s tennis team opened their spring campaign with a 7-0 road loss to West Liberty in Mountain East Conference action.

In singles action, Wesleyan’s No. 1 Taylor Papworth got off to a strong start winning the first 7-5 set against Isfandiyor Makmudov but he dropped the two next sets by identical 6-4 scores.

No. 2 Camillo Salvi also went three sets with his West Liberty opponent, Anton Schulz.

Salvi lost the first set by a 6-1 score but came back to take the second set, 7-5. He dropped the final set in a close match, 7-5.

Wesleyan then dropped the next four singles matches in straight sets.

Wesleyan started the day dropping all three doubles matches.

The team will be idle until Tuesday, March 16 when they return to the courts at home against Salem University.

The match will start at 3 p.m.
