WARREN (Ohio) – The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat golfers took sixth place out of nine teams in the two-day Mountain East Conference Championships held at the Avalon Lakes Golf Course.
Wesleyan was in eighth place after firing a 343 on day one but shaved 12 strokes of their game on day two on Thursday to improve to sixth with a total of 674.
Play on Wednesday was wiped out by the weather.
Davis & Elkins won the team title with a 606 while West Liberty was second with a 621 and Charleston was third with a 638.
Alex Easthom of West Liberty and Evan Lewis of Davis & Elkins both tied for low medalist honors with a 148, but Easthom was able to win on the first playoff hole to earn the victory and take MEC Golfer of the Year honors.
Wesleyan’s Dan Morgret was the top Bobcat golfer with a 164 while Colin Chapman was 27th with a 169.
Rigel Wilson was 31st with a 171 and Matt Allen was 36th with a 174.
Zach Chapman didn’t play on day one and a shot an 83 on day two.
West Liberty’s Bo Orecchio was named the MEC Freshman of the Year while J.D. Lamm of Davis & Elkins was named Coach of the Year.
The championships wrapped up the spring season for the ‘Cats.
