Saturday’s twin bill with West Virginia State moved to Monday

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats broke even with Salem International’s Tigers in a non-conference twin bill here Tuesday, posting a 3-1 victory in the opener, but dropping a 3-0 decision in game two.
The split left the Bobcats with an all-games record of 15-22 heading into a four-game Mountain East Conference weekend series with the visiting West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.
Saturday’s doubleheader against State has been moved to 1 p.m. on Monday, while Sunday’s action will begin at 1 p.m.
Wesleyan opened the scoring in the opening game, pushing a solo run across in the first inning when Austin Keene cracked a two-out double to left-center field and crossed on Ryan Kiser’s single to center.
The Tigers knotted it in the third, with Albert Cartenuto lining a single down the left field line, advancing on an error and Tyler Ault’s sacrifice bunt and scoring on Jimmy Cramer’s infield single.
Dominic Castello doubled down the left field line and coasted home on Alex Skinner’s booming triple to right-center to put the Bobcats back on top in the fifth frame.
They tacked on an insurance marker in the sixth when James Fraser lashed a lead-off single to left-center, took second on a passed ball, moved to third on Keene’s infield single, and scored when Kiser grounded into a double play.
Keene collected three of Wesleyan’s seven hits.
Travis Perry started on the mound, with Alex Wall, Griffin Roe, Sean Cliff and Chris Metrick following in relief. Roe picked up the win, and Metrick earned his sixth save.
The ‘Cats managed just three hits in the second clash, Antonio Vega’s single in the first inning, a double by Wyatt Adkins in the second and Eric Forbrick’s single in the sixth.
Salem plated two runs in the third inning. Josh VanMeter reached on an error, Abel Hernandez walked and Tyler Ault singled to load the bases. Cramer smacked a run-scoring single to center field, and Matthew Flores lofted a sacrifice fly to right field to send the second marker in.
The Tigers added the final tally in the sixth when Cramer doubled down the left field line and scored on Sean Deviney’s single through the left side.
Zach Henderson, Dillon Isom, Reicoff and Hunter Rotarius shared the mound duties, with Isom charged with the loss.
