Blind turn blamed for wreck at Turkey Run

BUCKHANNON — The “blind turn” just past Turkey Run was blamed for a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday afternoon.  Shortly before 3:00 p.m., Samuel Vanscoyoc said he was attempting to turn onto Route 20 North in his Chevy 2500 company truck when a Ford Edge rounded the turn in front of him.

The driver of the well tender’s truck said it looked clear when he pulled out of Turkey Run, but when he saw the car quickly approaching, he “gassed it” in effort to avoid the collision.  Vanscoyoc added, “If I would’ve hit the brakes, we would’ve hit nose on.”  Shanda Hoover was driving the Edge and required medical treatment at the scene, but her two passenger children were seemingly uninjured.

The Buckhannon Fire Department, Upshur County Sheriff’s Department and Upshur EMS responded to the scene.  Deputy Barcus advised Vanscoyoc that he was not being issued a citation, but he was being found at fault for the accident.  Tennerton Auto was dispatched to tow the vehicles from the roadway that had traffic backed up for several minutes in both directions.
